Josep Maria Malé is a native of St.Martí d'Empúries. He was born in his house on the Plaza mayor, in front of the Church, located just by the beach of St.Martí.

Can Esculapi was a “masía” through which passed generations of farmers. When it came to Joseph Maria's turn, he decided to adapt to the new times and turned the old aviary into a bar with a terrace. After the arrival of the Olympic flame to the old port of Empúries in 1992, the world-wide exposure of this part of the coast was enormous. Then Josep Maria turned the bar into the Pizzería Restaurant.
